Updated: Sep 27, 2020

The Truth of Bhangarh Tales

Many of us have heard of the Bhangarh Fort; no let me correct it “The Haunted Bhangarh Fort” and the tales surrounding it which are mostly about the hauntings that took place there. The legendary hauntings of Bhangarh Fort are covered everywhere on YouTube, newspapers, T.V, articles ,etc. Bhangarh is believed to be the home of paranormal activities making it a tourist attraction.

But have you ever wondered, what can be the truth behind these hauntings? Has anyone been there in the night to see if they can come out alive in the morning? What’s the truth behind the government sign which says “Do Not Enter the fort after 6:00 pm”? Is Bhangarh really listed as India’s most haunted location? Let’s uncover the Truth of Bhangarh Tales.

Tales: The city of Bhangarh was once the capital of Rajasthan, the fort of Bhangarh was build in 15th Century. The saga which is the most famous amongst all the other is that of Princess Ratnavati, according to legends the beauty of queen Ratnavati knew no bounds. When it came to physical attractiveness she was the most beautiful amongst the queens of all the neighbouring kingdoms.

When she turned 18 suiters from all over the kingdoms of India came to ask her to give her hand in marriage. Amongst all the suitors there was one Tantrik named Singhia who was no match for her so he decided to convince the princess to marry him through the magical powers he possessed. He caught hold of Princess Ranavati’s mistress in the market and enchanted the oil she was purchasing for Princess Ratnavati with his black magic powers. Singhia anticipated the queen to touch the oil and fall for him but instead she came to know the truth of the oil and threw the bottle on the ground breaking it into pieces shattering his hopes with it.

Before his demise Singhia cursed the city of Bhangarh to death and as a result it never witnessed any rebirths. This popular tale was also featured in Fear Files on ZeeTv alongside the paranormal experience of the lead actress of the show Jhansi ki Rani in the Bhangarh fort during her shoot.

Tourists claim to have seen ghostly apparitions along with the reports of music and dancing coming from within the city and fortress. Local believe that one who goes in Bhangarh Fort at night never comes back. The board placed by government near the fort says no one should be allowed to enter between 6:00pm to 6:00am is believed to be kept there because of the hauntings that occur there at night. One more myth pertaining to Bhangarh is that there are paramilitary forces who will take strict action on people if they tried to enter Bhangarh after 6:00pm. The temple of Jind Baba is located at the foot of the fort where the priest of the temple says that Jind Baba a highly powerful entity exists from the time of the creation of Bhangarh and hence millions of tourists that visit Bhangarh in search of ghosts visits the temple and prays to Jind baba by giving donations and sweets to protect them from the evil spirit present inside the fort.

.

Truth : It is very saddening that Bhangarh Fort which was once the epitome of beautiful architecture has now been given the tag of India’s most haunted place. The folktales and stories of it being a haunted location have covered up the beautiful architecture and the rich history of the fort.

Coming to the truth part Mr Jay Alani who is a paranormal investigator has visited there during the year 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, and stayed there during the night thus busting the myth that no one can come out alive of the fort after 6:00pm. He is his ordeal said that yes he heard the sounds at night there…….the sounds of animals. The presence of paramilitary forces at the entrance is yet another myth. The Archaeological Survey of India has appointed only 4 to 5 guards under the Protected Monuments Act as Bhangarh Fort is a protected monument and hence the guards are given the duty to see to it that no tourists stay in the fort after 6:00pm. Bhangarh is said to be ranked as India’s most haunted place by Government of India the truth prevails that there is no such official list ever made by the Government.

The reality about the board by government that states “Do Not Enter” the fort after 6:00pm is not because of it being haunted but under Archaeological Survey of India no tourists can enter any historical monument after 6:00pm to protect the fort from vandalism due to this mere reason the government had put the board outside the fort gate. The temple of Jind baba at the foot of the fort is yet another way to take advantage of people’s beliefs and fear Mr Jay Alani said that till 2018 no such temple existed and never he heard of Jind Baba there. The temple only came into being in the year 2019 that is quite recent, so one question arises here that why was this temple not opened before the haunted tales of Bhangarh got famous. Even the watchmen claim that they have been in the fort at night and have never heard any noises or seen any apparitions. Till date no one is able to rightly claim the existence of any paranormal activity in the fort. These stories of the Bhangarh as haunted fort has been spread like wildfire that now tourists don’t come to visit Bhangarh because of its magnificent architecture but to experience the hauntings, the hauntings which were never there.
